Job Title

Perform and interpret routine diagnostic microbiological, virological, serological, chemical, immunohematological, hematological or biophysical procedures in all areas and performs and interprets routine diagnostic serology procedures. Responsibilities are governed by pertinent New York State Licensing and the New York City Department Of Health Regulations.

Responsibilities

May work independently and on occasion may examine and approve the work of technicians when requested.

Conduct routine microbiological laboratory procedures in all pertinent areas of the laboratory including the reading of plates, identification of microorganisms, and antibiotic susceptibility testing of suspected pathogens.

Test and repeat tests when results are questionable and informs the Supervisor of any unusual isolates.

Judge the adequacy of submitted specimens and requests additional specimens if necessary.
