Heartland AEA has a Substitute Shelter Care Teacher position available that will serve eligible individuals at the Newton Correctional Facility and the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women (in Mitchellville) for 2026-27. This instructor is a licensed special education teacher who provides individualized instruction to incarcerated individuals with disabilities in accordance with state and federal special education regulations. This role is critical in supporting the academic, behavioral, and functional development of individuals eligible for special education services within a correctional setting. The instructor collaborates with the correctional education program team to assess individual's needs, develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitor progress, and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning profiles.
