Flexible Work, Better Balance
The average daily emergency take in Adult Medicine is 35 patients (+25 for Care of the Elderly) and the average length of stay of < 4-5 days. Consultant post-take ward rounds are carried out continuously in the EQ (Emergency Quadrant). There are over 6,000 emergency admissions each year to Adult Medicine, with a further 4,000 annual admissions to Care of the Elderly.
The Division of Emergency and Integrated Medicine has twice-weekly sessions of postgraduate and audit activity, including a weekly Physiciansβ Grand Round. There is also a weekly lunchtime Clinical Conference. The Division has a regular teaching commitment with resident students from Cardiff, Manchester and Liverpool, with the majority of appointed from these Universities. A core curriculum is taught to Foundation Year Ones and SHOs/FY2βs, and there are also regular MRCP tutorials. There is a dedicated Clinical Governance Unit and Audit Office with permanent staff.
