Flexible Work, Better Balance
The acute Inpatient Pain Service (IPS) RN works collaboratively with Anesthesia and Pain Medicine residents/fellows & consultants to manage post-surgical pain catheters and acute pain needs in various surgical populations at both RMC and SMC. IPS RNs are the primary contact for all phone calls related to the acute pain service during their shift. RNs coordinate pain management care between various stakeholders, providing expert assessment of patients in various locations including the PACU and patient care unit. IPS RNs provide continuity on the team and lead rounds in collaboration with the consultants and residents/fellows. Pain management education of patients, family members, anesthesia residents, and other interdisciplinary team members is a core role of the IPS RN.
