Flexible Work, Better Balance
Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury (Timaru Hospital) welcomes registered midwives with a New Zealand Practising Certificate from the New Zealand Midwifery Council to provide hands‑on midwifery care for approximately 600 births per year, ranging from normal and low‑risk to complex and high‑needs. The role is ward‑based and includes antenatal and postnatal care, attendance at births, and administration tasks such as admissions, discharges, and patient notes. Occasional accompaniment of patients to larger tertiary hospitals is required.
The position operates within a 24/7 roster, with responsibilities including night shifts, cleaning of delivery suites, and making rapid decisions about when to consult an obstetrician in the absence of an on‑site OB.
