ONCOLOGY SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Purpose:
To introduce undergraduate science/engineering students from backgrounds that are under-represented in medicine to the field of cancer. For
the purposes of this program, races and ethnicities that have been identified asunder-represented minorities (URM) include but are not limited to American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander. The program will provide students with exposure to the field of cancer medicine. The students will get to learn the basics of cancer, how patients are treated using technologies like radiation to destroy tumors, how the clinical team interacts with patients, and how the supporting team including radiation physicists work on quality of treatments to ensure patient safety.
