About the Role

The Anaesthetic Department provides a 24‑hour, 7 days per week service to Whangārei Hospital and oversees Kaitaia Hospital, one of our rural centres. The department includes specialist anaesthetic echocardiography, bariatric, and high‑risk clinics and a significant proportion of paediatric, trauma, major general and ENT procedures, obstetrics, and spinal surgery. This role offers the opportunity to work in a rural setting at Kaitaia Hospital for up to 10% of the time.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing effective and high‑quality anaesthetic services to the Northland community.
• Teaching resident medical staff, nurses and anaesthetic technicians.
• Supervising introductory trainees out of hours on a 1:9 basis and supporting their transition to the registrar roster.
