We are seeking
a highly motivated Research Assistant / Bioinformatician to join a Kidney Research UK-funded project investigating BK virus (BKV) infection in kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for end-stage kidney disease, but long-term outcomes remain limited by complications such as infection and cancer. BK virus reactivation occurs in around one-third of kidney transplant recipients and can lead to inflammation and damage within the transplanted kidney, yet there are currently no effective antiviral treatments available. This project brings together the expertise of the Bottomley Group, which studies how local and systemic factors influence immune responses in tissue, and the Wing Group, which focuses on the biology of understudied viruses.
