The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute, Tufts Medical Center, Boston, invites post-doctoral applications for a position in the laboratory of Dr. Lija Swain. The Swain laboratory aims to identify novel therapeutic approaches to improve myocardial recovery after acute myocardial infarction and heart failure. To this end, our lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic adaptation and mitochondrial function in the setting of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. We employ a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques, including primary cardiomyocyte isolation, mitochondrial function, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, flow cytometry and hemodynamic
measurements. The laboratory uses both large animal swine and small animal mouse models of acute myocardial infarction to identify novel cardioprotective pathways.
