Role Summary
The Patient Flow Co‑ordinator works within the Emergency Department to support the safe, timely and efficient movement of patients through the department. Working closely with the Nurse in Charge, clinical teams, site management and wards, the role focuses on reducing delays, supporting admissions, transfers and discharges, and escalating capacity issues to maintain patient flow and performance against waiting‑time targets.
The post holder coordinates communication across multidisciplinary teams, monitors referrals and bed availability, arranges patient transport, and actively supports operational decision‑making during periods of high demand. The role requires excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills, along with the ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast‑paced, acute clinical environment while maintaining courtesy, professionalism and sensitivity when dealing with patients and relatives.
