Paramedics perform highly responsible work involving responding to 911 emergency calls for help. Efficient and immediate basic and advanced life support measures and safe transport to appropriate medical facilities are provided to the critically ill and injured under protocols established by the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services and local medical direction. Paramedics must also be prepared for and able to respond in a calm and professional manner to any type of emergency including, but not limited to intercepts, mutual aid or closest ALS requests, structure fires, hazardous materials and mass casualty incidents or MABAS alarms, weapons of mass destruction events, active assailant and law enforcement standby. Paramedics must have a pleasant personality enabling them to quickly establish a rapport with patients.
