The role. The OR RN collaborates as an integral member of an interdisciplinary surgical team — including surgeons, surgical technologists, and other providers — to deliver safe, patient-centered care throughout the perioperative process. Prior to surgery, the nurse evaluates patients, provides education to patients and families about the procedure and perioperative experience, and assumes responsibility for preparation including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
