About the unit  

Butterworth Hospital’s second floor is home to the Surgical Services department which houses the Outpatient Center (OPC), Surgical Intake, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and the Hansen-Balk Surgical Family Waiting Lounge (SFWL). We strive to create a calm and healing environment for our patients and their loved ones. Team members who are working in OPC will complete the preoperative admission process, ensuring the patient has met all safety requirements for surgery and is ready for the rest of the surgical team to greet them. Upon completion of surgery, the PACU will provide phase 1 recovery for these patients. The acuity of these patients can range from same day discharge to ICU level.
