Flexible Work, Better Balance
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The role requires technical ability and problem‑solving skills to perform all tests—both manual and automated—in the clinical and environmental laboratories. The technologist conducts laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols, working independently in emergency and weekend/night situations. Instruments are often computer‑integrated and networked, and the technologist uses computerized information systems. Test results are compared to pre‑established reference intervals and decisions regarding reportability are made with independent judgment. The position demands a professional who can communicate effectively, maintain patient confidentiality, and perform under stressful conditions.
