Legal Counsel Services – The Law Foundation of Nova Scotia

The Law Foundation of Nova Scotia (the “Foundation”) was established in 1976 and is continued as a body corporate under section 72(1) of the Legal Profession Act (2005). The Foundation receives and distributes interest earned on lawyers’ pooled trust accounts in accordance with the objects set out in section 73 of the Act, namely:

“…to establish and maintain a fund to be used for the examination, research, revision and reform of the law, public access to the law, legal education, the administration of justice in the Province and any other purposes incidental to such objects.”

In addition to administering annual grants that support the legislative mandate, the Foundation also supports three appointed Trustees to administer a trust that funds scholarships at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.
