Ongoing initiatives across the utility sector—such as Grid Modernization, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and Distribution Automation—are driving the need for increased network bandwidth, capacity, and resilience.
To support this growing demand, utilities are implementing more redundant and resilient communication backbones to ensure reliable connectivity across networked devices.
Historically, the organization’s primary focus has been on power delivery rather than internal communications networks. While upgrades and MAC (Moves, Adds, and Changes) activities have been performed over time, a lack of standardized processes and emphasis has resulted in gaps in documentation and system records.
