**EKG technician - St. Rita's Medical Center**

**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**

Performs 12 and 18 lead ECG, rhythm strips with minimal artifact and high quality. Documents and processes for interpretation by cardiologist, following department policies and procedures. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described within.

**Essential Job Functions**

+ ​Verifies the patient’s name armband to the order requisition, ensuring that the correct patient receives the test.
+ Applies electrodes to the chest and extremity areas, adhering to the standards established for proper lead placement, utilizing alternate sites for lead placement when appropriate and adhering to the standards of counting the intercostal spaces for each patient ensuring proper lead placement. Prepares the patient’s chest area (shave, clean, abrade) when needed to obtain high quality tracings.
