Dogman / Rigger – Construction & Steel Erection

Location: Dunedin and Christchurch

Position Summary

The Dogman / Rigger is responsible for the safe slinging, signaling, and directing of crane operations during lifting activities with Smith cranes. This role is critical in steel structure and vertical building projects, ensuring loads are correctly rigged, secured, and guided into position safely and efficiently. This position is part of a long‑term project that will run 4‑5 years and will start in June/July.

Key Responsibilities

• Select, inspect, and attach appropriate rigging equipment (slings, chains, shackles, lifting beams, etc.).
• Safely sling and direct loads for lifting, including structural steel components such as beams, columns, and frames.
• Ensure loads are properly balanced, secured, and stable before lifting.
• Guide loads into position using taglines and controlled hand positioning.
