Stainless steel production is a highly resource-, energy-, and labour-intensive industry generating significant amount of post-production scrap and faces increasing pressure to align with global decarbonization objectives. In this context, the development of eco-friendly technologies for recycling stainless steel is essential to reduce primary raw material consumption, energy demand, and associated greenhouse-gas emissions, thereby strengthening the circular economy. Emerging manufacturing and processing routes enable more efficient use of recycled stainless-steel feedstock, supported by increased digitalization and improved process control. For the widespread adoption of recycled and circular stainless steels, these materials must demonstrate mechanical performance and application-relevant properties comparable to those of conventionally produced steels.
