Flexible Work, Better Balance
Seven million Venezuelans have fled the country due to the worsening of the humanitarian crisis that hit their country in recent years. Brazil has become the populationβs third main destination, after Colombia and Peru. Most of them cross the border by land through Pacaraima, the closest Brazilian municipality to Venezuela, in the northern state of Roraima, and stay there at least temporarily. Over 500,000 Venezuelans have migrated to Brazil over the last six years, approximately 30 percent are children and adolescents, who are particularly vulnerable to diseases, violence, abuse, and exploitation throughout the journey and in temporary shelters.
Since 2018, UNICEF in Brazil has been working to guarantee the rights of Venezuelan children and adolescents as part of its emergency and humanitarian response programme.
