JOB DETAILS
1) Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients
2) Agree a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions (including confidentiality issues)
3) Encourage clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others
4) Actively listen to client concerns and empathise with their position
5) Accept without bias the issues raised by clients
6) Help clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns
7) Challenge any inconsistencies in what clients say or do
8) Help clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward
9) Refer clients to other sources of help, as appropriate
10) Attend supervision and training courses
