Position Overview
Job Purpose A commis is a junior kitchen staff position responsible for assisting senior chefs with basic food preparation tasks, maintaining hygiene and safety standards, and ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly. This role provides essential support in the kitchen and is a stepping stone for advancing to higher-level positions.
Key Responsibilities - Food Preparation: Assist in chopping, cutting, peeling, cleaning ingredients and helping to prepare sauces, stocks, and garnishes.
- Cooking Assistance: Work under the supervision of the Chef de Partie and other senior chefs to cook simple dishes such as appetizers, side dishes, and salads following standardized recipes.
- Plating: Assist in plating food attractively before it is served to guests, ensuring portion control and presentation meet standards.
