Summary:
Educated health care provider who assists the Occupational Therapist in the provisionsof Occupational Therapy. Works under the direction and supervision of the registeredOccupational Therapist in the home environment practice setting.
Responsibilities:
1.May perform occupational therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the
supervising Occupational Therapist.
2.Documentation of treatments and progress documentation must be assigned by supervising Occupational
Therapist.
3.May modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with patient status within the scope of the
established treatment plan.
4.The performance of the delegated functions by the COTA must be consistent with safe, legal occupational
therapy practice.
5.The agency ensures that a qualified Occupational Therapist is always accessible by telecommunications to the
COTA at all times while the COTA is treating patients.
