**Overview**

The Future AI Infrastructure team at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is pioneering scalable, energy-efficient optical technologies to redefine the future of data centre infrastructure. Weu2019re looking for a talented, curious and motivated PhD student to join our multidisciplinary and highly collaborative team for a research internship starting in summer 2026. In this role, you will design and explore novel light source concepts for next-generation optical transmitters. You will tackle real-world technical challenges, pushing the boundaries of current technology to deliver transformative solutions for AI-scale systems.
