DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a technical position that involves the operation of high-pressure boilers under the immediate supervision of a Stationary Engineer who has charge of the shift in a large plant; the Assistant Engineer III may operate a smaller plant on an assigned shift with no immediate supervision. The work includes routine operation, maintenance, and cleaning of boilers and auxiliary equipment, and operation and maintenance of H.V.A.C. equipment. The employee reports directly to and works under the direct supervision of an Assistant Engineer Stationary Grade I or Grade 11, who inspects work for conformance with standards.
