The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) failsafe officer supports the antenatal and newborn screening co‑ordinator in the collation and entry of data for the antenatal and newborn screening programmes, infectious diseases in pregnancy, Down’s syndrome screening and fetal anomaly screening, haemoglobinopathy screening and newborn infant physical examination and newborn bloodspot screening. The failsafe officer identifies screening coverage of the eligible population and ensures safety of the screening programmes. She/he works closely with the antenatal and newborn screening co‑ordinator to facilitate failsafe mechanisms to identify and prevent missed screening opportunities and maintain an audit trail for all of the above screening programmes.
